Scott Hanna joined us for sort of the first and second time (the first time was erased mysteriously a year ago). We discussed some good stuff from 3 Nephi, conjectured heavily on the names of the three Nephites and Scott brought some weird new-agey stuff. This sucker's long.

I don't understand the new poll but I voted anyway.
I saw Jon's picture of 'Heisenberg' and it looked awesome. But I still don't know what Pete was because I didn't see his crappy costume. I'm dying to know what Pete was for Halloween. Don't leave your listeners hanging.
One time when I was a deacon, I remember passing the Sacrament for Stake Conference. It was a long time ago, and I don't remember the details, I just remember sitting at a "secondary" table in front of the overflow area. I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to pass the Sacrament in the Conference Center with a similar setup. A table could be setup for each section. And could be passed pretty efficiently it they wanted to. Anyway, Sacrament logistics is important to think about the other listeners might be bored.
Did you get the Car Talk clip I emailed to Pete? That's my favorite Three Nephite story. I think the Three Nephites and John the Beloved have perfect faith. So they can do whatever God can do. Teleport, make proper paperwork appear, whatever. Their wives probably aren't on earth with them, because they can always visit them in heaven if they need to. Their greatest desire is to minister to men, and the Lord granted their deepest desire. I thought the 80s TV show 'Highway to Heaven' would be a pretty good depiction of their situation.
The Church is re-doing the way it teaches the youth in Sunday School. Probably to coincide with the lower age for missions. So, the leaders already have an idea that they need to teach the youth better, so they can be prepared for missions at 18. Check out the link:

Anyhow, I like Pete's lesson for teaching 3 Nephi 11. As a church, we can always preach a more personal Savior.
R-rated movies: I remember an object lesson from seminary; The teacher had a cake which he put a little bit of dog food on. Then he asked us if we wanted a piece, and likened it to if we wouldn't eat a cake with a little bit of dog food, we shouldn't watch any R movies with a little bit of filth.

Yeah, I wanna hear what Pete dressed up as for Halloween...pictures would be great, but just knowing his get-up choice would be enough.
Wives? I can't see that being the case. I see the Three Nephites as being on this earth alone. They may have women reserved for them in the eternities, but I honestly think they never got married. I think their lives are a little too hectic to allow for the presence of a spouse here on earth. No marriage, no death, no 'human condition' elements at all, if you ask me.
I totally think you guys should do a special '3 Nephites Welcome' at the July 14th party.
Scott's book sounds pretty crazy. Almost too coincidental.

My thought is about expedience. In the scriptures, it says that those who have faith will have power to do whatever is expedient for them. I don't think there's anything about it being only for Priesthood holders or any other specific group. No matter who you are, you can be magnified to the degree necessary when there's a job to be done and the Lord needs you to do it or needs you to see His power in some certain way.
I look forward to the R-rated movies discussion, too. President Dunn gave me a good, memorable answer to the question a few years ago, and I'll share that with you next time.

ReplyDeleteI missed voting in the poll about what we'll look like in the resurrection, but I believe everyone will look like me.
Also, I don't think we have a ward invalid,but will bring it up to the Bishop. I'm always willing to serve.This is probably easier than assistant ward sacrament meeting program folder.
Thought everyone knew that John is teaching the lost tribes, so off of Patmos.
Finally, good guess on the names of the 3 Nephites. You got two of them right. Always smart to play the odds.
