Rodcast 117: Christmas 2012

Are you ready for the most secular Christmas discussion ever done on a religious podcast? Well first you'll have to sit through a bit of Etherial musings (musings regarding Ether).

I said Hanukkah Harry was Phil Hartman, but it was obviously Jon Lovitz.

That Christmas quiz we took? You can take it too. Right here. It's messed up. I took it like 10 times after the recording and it doesn't count any form of right answer for the busiest shopping day of the year. Not the day after Thanksgiving, not Christmas Eve, nothin'. Also, apparently the suicide rate stays the same, the two brothers exchanged moleskin pants, the reindeer are named Dunder & Blixem and early candy canes had no stripes (no symbolism apparently).

Rodcast 116: Hie to Kobol

For anybody turned off by the idea of The Iron Rodcast tackling the fictional world of Battlestar Galactica, keep in mind that we also mused about some of the concepts in Ether for like five minutes. Oh, and also we answered some viewer mail regarding Brigham Young, W.W. Phelps, David O. McKay and other things we really have no idea about.

I forgot to tie-in something regarding the Kolob talk. I meant to say that my belief in Kolob is crazy and weird enough (yet true) that I have a difficult time making fun of the wacky beliefs of other crazy beliefs such as Scientology.

Anyway, download here!

Rodcast 115: R

Scott guested again to share a few R-rated movie suggestions. Also, don't watch them. Don't watch ANY movies apparently.

For the record, the person typing this sentence doesn't feel there's anything wrong with self-flagellation in the name of holiness -- just as long as the individual realizes the pain could, literally not in a million years, come close to Atonement levels.

Also:

You demanded it! You viewed it! You can't un-view it!

Rodcast 114: Three Nephites!

Hope you're enjoying the election.

Scott Hanna joined us for sort of the first and second time (the first time was erased mysteriously a year ago). We discussed some good stuff from 3 Nephi, conjectured heavily on the names of the three Nephites and Scott brought some weird new-agey stuff. This sucker's long.

Rodcast 113: Barely Regal

Okay, so it's old news, but we mostly talked about General Conference in this one -- with a particular emphasis on the missionary age announcement.

Rodcast 112: O.D.

Sorry for the delay! My laptop went into outer darkness. This episode isn't our Conference report (we haven't recorded that one yet). It's actually the Rodcast we recorded a few weeks ago. I was able to extract it off of the laptop and finally get it posted up now.

I think we spoke a little bit about the Brigham City Temple dedication. There's a bit of Helaman in there too probably. You go to Sunday School. You know what's up.

Our second topic is somehow tackling Outer Darkness, which is a place that's kind of a big deal, but doesn't even have an entry in Mormon Doctrine. We said what we think. What do you think?

Tom Delay

We've recorded a rodcast, BUT my laptop went on the fritz, and I can't get access to the information at this time. Hopefully we'll be able to get it off shortly. In the meantime, feel free to comment regarding conference or the debate or whatever.

Rodcast 111: Ceilings

You know, I'm really enjoying this every two week dealie.

It was regional conference so we sort of took a break from religion a little bit. We found some stuff in Helaman worth mentioning. Also, Laura joined us to complain about the trivia segment!

We also had a conversation about sealings from three people over 30 who never bothered to get sealed to anyone so far in our lifetimes. We're obviously very confused. Likely the three of us will be assigned to be sealed to each other in the next life.

Download here!

We do have the words of a prophet in the outtakes. Hopefully it will do you good and hopefully it's not illegal of us to put it there.

Next week: Outer Darkness!

Rodcast 110: Mitt

Alright, fine. We took a break. Sorry.

For Sunday school we did a vague overview of the second half of Alma. Wars 'n stuff.

Second topic, just in time for the Republican National Convention, was a revisiting of politics. We decided to take it easy and not have any guests, figuring that the real juicy debate is about to take place in the comments section.

Download here!

There are, however, two points that I believe I may have forgotten to make.

We glanced at a short article and sort of referenced it (http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/home2/53110048-183/mormons-utah-lds-party.html.csp). Here's an interesting quote from it:

"[The Republicans have] been brilliant at creating this image of what a Democrat is and how it's the antithesis of what an active LDS person is."

Is this true?

Also, I've always considered myself pro-life because I'm uncertain when life actually begins and want to play it safe. Does the church's stand on abortion affect what you think on when life begins?

Next week: temple sealings! Or maybe outer darkness!

Rodcast 109: Uniforms

Alma's my favorite, but does he like, bend the truth?

We also discussed the church dress code again. Lava-lavas and kilts were the instigators, but far from the most interesting.

Rodcast 108: BSA

Our prodigal local LDS satire artist has returned! Matsby's back. At least this week.

We're totally lost in Alma.

Second topic is the Church's affiliation with the Boy Scouts of America. Matt threw in an interesting curveball we didn't see coming. Also, we're veering dangerously close to the big discussion that will get The Iron Rodcast taken off the air.

And a fond welcome to new listener Michelle!

Rodcast 107: By and By

Image from jaredlindsayclark.com.

More Anti-Nephi Lehies, a little Korihor and just a touch of the A-team in Sunday school.

We also touched on art in general and our absolute obliviousness to it.

Amazingly Rhett made a special appearance. Haven't seen that guy in years. Laura was kind enough to come along. A very special thanks goes to Jared Clark as this week's special guest who put up with our foolishness.

Rodcast 105: Girls Camp Report '12

We complain about our country just in time for Independence Day!

Also, TWO (again) lessons from Alma.

We were gonna talk about seer stones this week, but instead we had guest Laura do her annual girls camp report. Fun fun fun! Should we include "different" girls?

Next week: Seer stones (maybe)!

Rodcast 104: Mission Accomplished

Rodcast 104 represents two years of irreverent fun.

Laura and Steph joined us for this specific week's fun that included two separate Sunday school lessons from Alma.

We enjoyed a special anniversary edition second topic speed round. Romney and the Beatles made an appearance.

Rodcast 103: Chief Judge Dredd

Stephanie was glad to join us this week. It was pizza day. We caught up on two weeks' worth of Sunday School, which covered two Almas. Apparently the Nephites knew exactly what 9/11 was like, but that didn't stop them from feeling for their enemies.

Three haters spoke of Diet Coke.

Rodcast 102: Dragg-unz

So Sunday School was pretty fun this week. We had the weird "mourn" baptismal covenant, the self-baptism, preaching vs. teaching, Alma-socialism, dragons and of course the justified punishments of Limhi vs. the unjustified punishments of Alma.

Second topic consisted of us complaining about the pronunciation guide. Some of us have never said "it doesn't matter" more vehemently.

Here is a link to the BCC article Jon attempted to find on air, but couldn't.

Here is a link to the pronunciation guide article that Pete mentioned.

Rodcast 101: Fast Jokes

Rodcast 98: Annual '12

Matt went missing this week, but Stephanie gladly substituted for our annual chat about annual conference (not to be confused with the semi-annual one). What was your favorite talk? Least favorite?

Also, Stephanie filled in as a wonderful Lent expert (Hello Tucano's AND Five Guys late Friday night!).

Rodcast 97: The Letter of the Spirit World

We were fortunate enough to have the lovely Laura join us this week. Also, we were fortunate enough to tangent off into spirit of the law as well as progression within the three degrees.

Our main topics were supposedly 2 Nephi and then the spirit world for second topic.

Please comment on this one! I'm specifically interested in hearing what you believe regarding the existence of ghosts on our earth in relation to the spirit world.

Download here!

Note: we're probably not recording this next week, so the next Rodcast will be our coverage of the next General Conference. After that, we'll probably cover swearing.

Rodcast 96: Vacation!

We're still trapped in 2 Nephi and not understanding what our Sunday school classes are talking about. Still, though I gotta ask the masses -- were the things Nephi said just prophecies or self-fulfilling prophecies?

Is someone covered in tattoos, piercings and facial hair more honest in their wickedness than you are?

We also said you pretty much can't have any fun while on vacation on Sunday.

Rodcast 95: Don't Laugh!

We're missing Matsby this week and we're a bit short on Sunday school discussion.

BUT, would you like to hear what we think of the Terminator franchise?

Also, we're totally into repeats. This week for second topic we combed over the cons of laughter. Hopefully you won't find this one too funny.

Download now!

In relation to last week's Rodcast, here's the link about the guy who has been fasting for like 70 years.

Also, it's about time we threw a link to Matsby's Mormon merch store.

Also, fasting -- in all its forms.

Next week: Loud laughter (again).

Rodcast 93: People We Don't Want in the Celestial Kingdom

We talked more 2 Nephi and we talked about people we don't want in the Celestial Kingdom (although honestly we sort of copped out by making an object lesson of the very concept and dismissing it entirely (spoiler alert)).

Mostly though we responded to YOUR comments.

We flirted with the idea of talking about The Holy Ghost, the person. Also I think I hate polygamy.

All this and Lent!

Next week: fasting and different methods of fasting.

Rodcast 92: Sacrament

We were supposed to learn more about 2 Nephi this week. We were absent. Listen, though, as we sort of tastefully deconstruct the weekly ordinance of the sacrament.

Things I forgot... Lent is starting soon. Please send in comments about what you want us (probably just Jon) to give up for Lent.

Also... tell me what new polls I need to put up. I wasn't paying attention during our actual conversation about them.

Rodcast 91: Baby Blessings (pt. 1)

I think we talked about the beginning of 2 Nephi. We also officially spoke about TV on Sunday. But all of us have a new obsession: baby blessings. Do not listen lest you become obsessed with baby blessings yourselves.

Next week: Sacrament DOs and DON'Ts (specifically with the "hey we know it's the water being passed now, but we missed the bread -- can we have some?"

Rodcast 90: Liahona

This week: Matt makes a case for the Liahona being the result of time travel! Also: a truly humble person? We can't relate. And: boats. All this plus the revelation of our new Plain English Book of Mormon! Be there!

FYI: get your comments in quick on TV on Sunday. This was posted late and we're likely to record again tomorrow.

Rodcast delayed this week

We will likely not be doing the Rodcast this week because apparently nobody went to Sunday school and our sound engineer (the guy who pushes the record button (me (Jon))), is pretty much gone all week worshiping matinee idols.

Rodcast 89: Exclusivity

Before we forget, here are some of links of Matt's that we mentioned:

My Religious Blog
Axl Rose: Hungry Time Traveler
Matt's Art
... and of course The Galactus Imperative

Things we learned:
We don't read.
Our listeners wanna talk about sex.
There are many ways to laugh.
Our Twitter followers are Democrats and other infidels.

This week we hit the vision of the tree of life.

Also... something else... oh yeah that this is the only true church (sorta).

Rodcast 88: Evolved

The long-awaited Rodcast on evolution is finally here! We had Matsby this week as well as long-time contributor Ethan (En.). Oh, also we cracked open The Book of Mormon for Sunday school for the first time in Rodcast history. Nephi killed a guy.
