Rodcast 49: Lent

Finished up the sermon on the mount and had an incredibly ignorant mention of Lent. Rhett's back. Be sure to vote in the poll.

  1. No wonder when I said, "Well, according to Joseph Smith..." during the (unrighteous) judgement segment, Peter looked to the back of the room and said, "Yes, Scott." Way to make a girl feel insecure Peter ;)

Advent is related to Christmas -- not Easter. It's a different start day each year, but I think it always starts on a Sunday.

I gave up FB for Lent. I don't think FB is bad and I fully intend on going back, but it is a time waster for me and a passive way of interacting with people. I think it's interesting how some people have made fun/criticized me with the argument "Why? You're not Catholic" It's a nice concept about sacrifice. If a Catholic decided to abide by the Word of Wisdom, I doubt those same people would criticize them for following what is mostly a "Mormon" concept.

I have comments and questions about Jane Eyre/Atlas Shrugged/The Adjustment Bureau for any of you who wants to talk to me about them offline.

  2. Yes, Advent is pre-Christmas, not pre-Easter. It usually starts on a Sunday around Thanksgiving, so save it until then.

I gave up pizza for Lent, btw. To answer your question, though: there is no requirement to give stuff up...there is very little in the Catholic Church that you HAVE to do, remember?

Peter: instead of broccoli, add spinach to your smoothies. Excellent.

Congratulations to Alexis on giving up Diet Coke. It is a cult within the Church and I'm glad she's out of it. I watched "Days" when I was in high school and college and left it behind when I finished school & moved out here...and I don't miss it at all. It is possible.

I was going to make a comment here about how tea partiers are all excited about the "Atlas Shrugged" movie...but I won't.
